The Importance of UV Protection for Outdoor Athletes
As an outdoor athlete, you have experienced the challenges and rewards of exploring new territories and testing your limits. However, with all the excitement and adrenaline comes a critical consideration - the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. UV rays can cause permanent damage to both the skin and eyes, as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.
Rec Specs offers high-quality eye protection, making it the ideal choice for performance sunwear. Our wide range of frames and lenses feature cutting-edge technology and materials that not only shield you from harmful UV rays, but also enhance your overall performance.
With Rec Specs, you can pursue your outdoor passions confidently knowing that your eyes are protected and your vision performance is optimized.
UVA AND UVB RAYS
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is composed of both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays make up the majority of the UV radiation that reaches the Earth's surface and can penetrate deep into the eyes. While they are not as intense as UVB rays, they can still cause long-term damage to the eyes, such as cataracts and macular degeneration. UVB rays, on the other hand, are shorter and more intense, and are primarily responsible for sunburns and skin cancer. They can also damage the cornea and lens of the eye, leading to photokeratitis, also known as "snow blindness."
Given the potential consequences of exposure to UV radiation, it's important to choose a pair of sunglasses that can block 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Wearing protective eyewear like Rec Specs is especially important for outdoor athletes who spend extended periods of time in the sun.
KEEP THESE IN MIND
- Not all sunglasses offer 100% UV protection. If you're unsure about the level of UV protection your sunglasses provide, ask your eye doctor or optician to evaluate them with a UV-measuring instrument.
- Even when surrounded by shade, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from sun damage. Although shade will reduce your UV exposure, you should still wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from reflected UV rays.
- Sunglasses are also a winter necessity. Snow can reflect 80% of UV rays, nearly doubling your overall exposure to solar UV radiation.
- Even if your contact lenses block UV rays, you should still wear sunglasses. Wearing sunglasses protects your eyelids and other tissues not covered by the lens from UV damage.
REC SPECS PERFORMANCE SUNWEAR: YOUR BEST PROTECTION AGAINST UV
Rec Specs is committed to protecting athletes' eyesight by providing sunwear that has built-in UV protection features. Our sunglasses are designed with polycarbonate lenses that inherently block both UVA and UVB rays, as well as Trivex lenses, which have similar properties.
The wrap design of our sunglasses, with their frame curvature, provides additional protection from the sides, where athletes are also vulnerable to UVA/B exposure. This design ensures that the wearer is covered from all angles, not just when looking directly at the sun.
Additionally, our SWITCH technology allows athletes to adjust their lenses according to the lighting conditions, providing them with maximum protection from harmful UV rays at all times.
